There are a number of different methods that you can use to get back links to your website but the main problem is that the majority of these ways can be extremely tedious, time consuming and really boring to do. Although there are some software applications that you could use to generate links automatically the only links that are worth having for search engine purposes are those that occur naturally. The reason for this is because naturally occurring links usually come from websites that are updated regularly and usually carry more authority as far as the search engines are concerned.

The only way you can do this is by creating content that is worthwhile linking to, and this type of content is often referred to as link bait. It is important though to remember that not every bit of content you produce is going to get the attention of other webmasters or bloggers.

Here are a few suggestions of ways to get more back links to your website.

1.  Unique Content.
A great way to generate a link bait post is by creating unique and exclusive content and to do this you must base it around something that is exclusively yours. A good method of doing this is by publishing the results of a short study, and statistics can be easily obtained as there are so many different online polling tools that will take up very little time and effort on your part. Once you have gathered the statistics you can then use them to write an article that can be both timely and valuable. This will not only get you immediate back links but will continue to get links for you for many months ahead when other people mention your study as a starting point or in comparison to their own study.

2.  Being Controversial.
Controversy is another popular kind of link bait. There is one problem though that you need to be careful of when using method and that is to be sure that there is actually a need to be controversial and do not create a post where no real controversy actually exists. Don’t just disagree for the sake of it, because you will end up just sounding ridiculous and will lose any credibility that may have begun to boost your traffic and you will also lose a lot of trust within your particular industry or niche.

3.  Infographics.
This is a resource that is fast gaining popularity and more people are beginning to use it. It is a resource that will possibly become very powerful for the foreseeable future, because infographics require a lot of time as well as thought and in many instances with only an extra paragraph or two of content they can be more than sufficient.

4.  Giving Away a Free Download.
Never overlook the value of a free download as this is an excellent way to build back links to a particular post or article. Remember though that the anchor text will in all likelihood be the title of the report so it is essential that your target word in included in the title of it.

Link building is still an important part of marketing your online business, but the thing to keep in mind is that they must be natural links to get the desired results.
