Here is an article by my friend and guest writer Alan Mater.

If you are one of those who are finding it difficult to balance their home as well as work life, then perhaps you need to consider online income opportunities. And this is not difficult at all today. After all, the Internet has opened up a vast plethora of options for us.

I’m sure there is something you can get into that you would enjoy doing while making money at the same time. While not every income opportunity will be right for you, consider these 5 ways that you can make money online from home.

1. Freelance Writing

One of the most common online income opportunities today includes being a freelance writer. The creativity in you gets unleashed this way. You can write when you want and on any subject matter that you want. You can even have your own blog if you choose. Once your writing becomes compelling and worth sharing to the masses, you can use this skill to make a living on the internet. Begin with banner advertising, selling advertising space, and even add affiliate marketing into the mix where you promote other people’s products or services that are related to your own.

If a blog isn’t your style, other online income opportunities includes becoming a ghostwriter. This means that you will be writing for others and meeting specific criteria they specify. Even if you are not getting the credit for the writing, you can still add your creativeness to the writings and earn money at the same time.

2. Online Trading

If writing isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there are so many other options available. You could opt for online trading, if you like to follow stocks or think the odds add up in your favor. Even so, many average people are trying their hand at online trading. And who can blame them, when there are many tools and software available today to assist them.

I’ll warn you now that online trading can be tricky, and great care should be taken when buying and selling stocks. I recommend doing your research or hiring a brokerage firm to assist and guide you in the buying and selling process.

3. E-Commerce

Other online income opportunities include setting up your own e-commerce website. You could even sell second-hand goods if you prefer. You have the option to market just one kind of item or a complete range of items. The choice is completely up to you, since it is your site, after all. You can sell pens, cars, houses, electronic gadgets, houses, and even fashion accessories or apparel.

Some things to take note of when setting up your e-commerce site is that you properly secure the site using the latest technology so that customers will feel safe buying from you. This is a must. Also make sure that you comply with all the legal requirements of the State in which you live.

Here’s a tip. If at all possible, try to buy directly from the manufacture, cutting out the middleman. This will keep your prices low and competitive but still allow room to make a profit. A source to look into is if you’re serious about starting your own e-commerce website.

4. Virtual Assistant

Another online income opportunity includes being a virtual assistant. A virtual assistant is quite similar to being a personal assistant, but the difference is that you would be working out of your home. By using just your computer and internet connection, you can assist small business owners and entrepreneurs in everyday tasks that they don’t have the time to do. It’s quite possible that you may never actually come face-to-face with your boss.

The type of work you do will depend on what all is required by the person who hired you. It could be responding to emails, data entry, setting up appointments, scheduling, filing or making reports. In the offline world, this position would probably be called an office assistant. Since you’re working at home, your whole house is your office, or whichever part of the house you prefer to conduct business.

The best part about being a virtual assistant is that you are your own boss. You can work when you want, play when you want, and take your family on vacation whenever you want!

5. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is always a popular online income opportunity, due to the fact that it costs very little to get started. What a lot of people do, and what I recommend you do as well, is to start a blog. If you have a hobby or passions that you’re knowledgeable about, this can be a great starting point for your new blog.

WordPress is a great platform and content management system that most bloggers, including myself, use to manage their blogs. Go to and follow the simple steps to install it to your server. Speaking of servers, you’ll need a domain name and web hosting to run your new blog. Both cost as little as $100 a year, so as you can see there’s very little start-up cost involved.

Once your blog is underway, start marketing it and learning about SEO and social media to get people to your blog. Once traffic picks up, use affiliate marketing to monetize on that traffic. Google Adsense, products on Clickbank and PayDotCom are just a few ways you can find relevant products and ads to promote. Affiliate marketing training will definitely help advance your blog and have it start generating income more quickly.

The amount of money you can make with online income opportunities will depend entirely on your capability and the amount of time that you are willing and capable to put in to work. Choose the opportunity that best suits your taste and that is of interest to you and that you will enjoy doing. If you have passion for what you do, the money will come.
