Are you one of those people who put off “until tomorrow” doing the tasks that are not fun to do? Most of us tend to procrastinate with unpleasant tasks from time to time even if they are important to our internet based business.

Don’t despair, there are ways to help you overcome this problem and in this article we will discuss just some of them.

1. We all have times of the day when we are more productive than at other times, so plan your tasks for the day accordingly. Do something that Brian Tracy recommends and that is “swallow your frogs” in other words do the tasks you would normally put off during your most productive times.

2. If you have a project that is so overwhelming that you don’t ever want to begin it, break it down into smaller steps and just concentrate on getting the first step done. Once you have completed that then move on to the next one.

Write it down! By writing the steps down and being very clear on what is required for each one you will find the whole process a good deal easier to cope with.

4.  Once you have worked out your plan for the day and allocated a time period to each task then concentrate on that task without distractions until you have completed it. During this time do not answer the phone or the door and remove anything else that is likely to distract you from the task at hand. When that task is finished for the day, you can then take a short break before beginning the next one.

5.  If you make any mistakes, don’t beat yourself up about it. Mistakes are how we learn so just think of it as a learning curve and move on. Nobody is perfect we all make mistakes at times the main thing is to discover where we went wrong and how we can correct it.

6.  If you set yourself up with too many tasks to complete in a day you are setting yourself up to fail. Be realistic about what you can actually achieve in one day and work accordingly.

7.  Exercise regularly, eat healthy and nourishing food and get enough sleep. All of these things will give you more energy and you will be less likely to procrastinate on what you need to accomplish. Not only will you feel better but your internet business and your family will benefit from a brighter and happier person.

Plan for times when there will be unavoidable distractions. This happens to all of us and you need to allow for it provided it is really something that cannot be avoided. Something that is very important is to remember to reward yourself when you have completed a difficult task, especially if it was one that you have been procrastinating on doing, and make whatever you are working on fun it really is much easier when you can enjoy it and an internet based business from home is something that you should be able to get pleasure from.

You often hear people say that time is like money or that time is money and the reason for this is that you can save time, spend time or waste time the same as you can do with money.

But the truth of the matter is that time is not like money at all. The saying that you can save time might be true in some ways, but you cannot take time to the bank and save it for a rainy day.  Once it is gone, it is gone forever never to return. So if you think about it carefully time is definitely more precious than money.

From this perspective it is certainly sensible to use your time wisely and to spend some of it in learning techniques that will help you to make the best possible use of the time that you have.

1.  Mission statements and setting of goals.

A mission statement will help to clarify for you the vision and values that you have for your business and is your main reason for wanting to be in a business in the first place. It will be your constant reminder or your WHY. In other words what you want to achieve from your business.

Once you know what your reason is, and why it is what it is, you will then find it quite simple to set the necessary goals to achieve your desires. Make each goal a milestone and set clear timelines for when you would like to reach each one. Review your goals daily as this will help to keep you focused on what you intend achieving.

2.  To do lists:

A to do list like a set of goals will help you focus on your aims and works as a memory jogger so that the important tasks are not forgotten. It also helps you to prioritize the tasks in order of importance. Each completed task gets crossed off the list and you then move on to the next one. Do them in order of importance. By doing the most important ones first you will then have time to focus on what you do enjoy the most.

At the end of each day review your to do list and set up your list for the next day. Any tasks not completed must be carried forward to the next day. Divide your tasks in to groups such as (a) important and urgent (b) important but not urgent etc. Any tasks that are neither important nor urgent are usually not necessary so decide whether it is a task and not just a distraction. If it is a distraction, then drop it altogether.

3.  Delegation:

Not everyone can do every task well. By trying to do it all yourself you will end up just wasting time. Rather focus on the things that you do well and delegate the other tasks. Delegation is of imperative if you wish to effectively leverage your time and is an essential part of time-management.

When planning your internet business, consider which tasks would serve you better by being outsourced, so that you could be more productive on the tasks which you are more adept at and can do better than others.

By developing good time-management habits you will be more effective in your internet based business and will make money much faster and will achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

In other words write down each step and what activities will be required to get there. This will give you some direction on what needs to be done on a daily basis.

3.  How to maintain momentum.

One on the most difficult problems that most new internet marketers face is the ability to juggle a new business venture with the other commitments that are encroaching on their time. This is where time management comes in to play.

It all comes down to careful planning and making good use of whatever spare time is available each week. Take in to account how much time you will have available and also how energetic you will feel at these times because rest is also an important factor for you to be able to perform at your best.

The best thing to do here is make a list of all the various tasks that need to be carried out and then prioritize that list into tasks to do when you are most alert and energetic and the ones that you can perform when you feel less so.

By following a plan like this you will stand a far better chance of keeping your business moving forward while still continuing with your full time job and giving time to your family. Just remember that this is not a sprint but more of a marathon. It takes time to build an internet home based business but with constant dedicated effort and baby steps you will achieve a successful business that will give you a solid income and a life that you dream about.
